Karstin
Lake is a fashion designer, fashion show expert, and concert pianist from
Southern California. She graduated with a bachelor’s degree in piano in 2013.
While growing up, she was encouraged to enjoy all the arts, but was told to
choose a “rational” career for the future. Karstin originally planned on going
into the medical field after completing her bachelor’s degree in piano. Her
mother always told her that fashion design was fine as a hobby, but not as a
career. However, during her junior year at BYU, she threw away the standard
idea of “rational” and decided to follow her dreams. She recently finished
directing BYU’s first fashion show in the last two decades. As the marketing
assistant at the Provo Towne Centre Mall, Karstin put on fashion shows for
retail stores such as Downeast Basics, Gap, and J.C. Penney’s. As a fashion
designer, she designs feminine, edgy, colorful women’s clothing.
